CosmoLex vs. QuickBooks

CosmoLex vs. QuickBooks for law firms

QuickBooks alone doesn't do IOLTA-compliant trust accounting — attorneys running it report keeping two sets of books just to bolt on compliance, and the sync breaking is a known failure mode. CosmoLex is purpose-built for this, but comes with its own complaints about the switch.

Pricing

ToolPriceNotes
CosmoLex$109–129/user/moStandard $109/mo, Elite $129/mo (annual). No firm-size minimum currently listed, despite earlier reports of a 2-user minimum — packaging appears to have changed.
QuickBooks Online$38–275/moSimple Start $38, Essentials $75, Plus $115, Advanced $275 (promotional first-period pricing runs roughly half these rates).

What practitioners report

I have been with Cosmolex for over 4 years now. It is an absolute disaster. Do not go there. Too many issues to list. Migrating to another software is not easy but once I have time I will do it. Do not fall into the Cosmolex Trap.
...using LL and QBO is creating 2 sets of books for trust accounting which, from experience, eventually creates issues when the sync breaks. I would feel better just using LL for trust accounting and QBO for firm accounting.

Switching signals

I am using QB and Trust Books and have been doing the bookkeeping myself but I want to hire someone starting in April because this is taking too much of my time.
